I love to listen a variety of shows that I pick up on NPR. One of my favorites doesn't so much give me new music ideas as it teaches me how to listen for sound bytes that carry a story.

Their storytelling is engaging and keeps my attention - we should strive for the same in a new documentary style - use all of our senses to understand the story that is there, and get a feel for how people express themselves.
